A new study published in the Journal of American Heart Association by the researchers from the Pennsylvania State University looks at the benefits of avocado consumption in patients with elevated bad or low density lipoprotein (LDL) cholesterol. After two weeks of eating American diet, 45 healthy overweight individuals were divided into 3 groups – low-fat diet, moderate-fat and moderate-fat with avocado. The group that consumed avocado daily had the largest reduction in LDL cholesterol (13.5 mg/dL). The authors remind that other dietary interventions can also be helpful in lowering bad cholesterol. What are your typical non-pharmacological recommendations for lowering LDL cholesterol?
