The number of people getting tattoos each year is steadily increasing, but so is incidence of tattoo related infections. It is not only skin infections either, some people have developed sepsis as a result of contaminated tattoo ink. In July White and Blue Lion Inc. recalled their in home tattoo kits due to a bacterial contamination in unopened ink bottles. How do you counsel patients who have just gotten a tattoo? Have you seen an increase in risk of infection related to tattoo ink in your practice?
