Drug abuse is an ill of society that is always present, even among teenagers. The quintessential drugs that are usually associated with drug abuse among teens, alcohol and marijuana, have not changed, but a recent study found that the use of opioids in high school aged kids is on the rise. The percentages that were calculated from this study, 12% in boys and 8% in girls, are the highest that they have ever been. Results pointed to athletic students, particularly boys that play football, as having the highest rates of abuse. Researchers suspect that areas that have a have a high rate over over prescribing prescription pain relievers may have an impact on the rate of abuse among teens in that region.
