A recent study, utilizing mathematical projections, has revealed that taking anti-pyretic medications can increase transmission of the flu. Anti-pyretic medications reduce fever and a fever fights viruses by hindering their ability to reproduce, so using these drugs can increase the amount of flu virus shed. David D. J., the senior author of the study, doesn’t recommend avoiding fever-reducing drugs but reiterates that sick adults and children should stay home when ill.
