The drug was approved based on six clinical trials showing efficacy in treating depression against placebo. One clinical trial also showed that Brintellix decreased the likelihood of patients becoming depressed again after treatment. Common adverse effects reported in clinical trials include nausea, constipation, and vomiting. Similar to other anti-depressants, Brintellix will also contain a black-box warning and medication guide for risk of suicidal ideation in children, adolescents, and young adults.
