ID-100129077A study published by the Journal of General Internal Medicine revealed that consumer-targeted TV drug ads can be potentially misleading. The study examined 168 prescription and OTC TV drug ads between 2008 and 2010 and found that 33% of these ads were true, 57% were misleading, and 10% had false information. Furthermore, the study showed similar results in terms of the number of misleading ads between prescription and non-prescription drug ads. However, there was a higher percentage of false information in non-prescription drug ads compared to prescription drug ads. The findings of this study raise questions about the legitimacy of TV drug ads as a good source of drug information for consumers. Do you believe advertisements are valuable to patients?  How often do patients ask you about products they have seen advertised?
