The Boston Public Health Commission reported the death of 5 men from a suspected opiate overdose since July 15 which is significantly higher compared to what is typically reported during an entire month. Although data are still pending regarding the cause of the deaths, heroin or a newly synthetic opioid known as “acetyl fentanyl” that has been responsible for 14 deaths in Rhode Island may be to blame. As a safety measure, flyers have been distributed across the city warning the public about the issue. What improvements can you as a health care provider make to keep your patients safe?
