A prospective cohort study from the latest issue of JAMA evaluated more than 650,000 children and risk of autism following maternal use of valproate.  Of the 508 children exposed to valproate in-utero, there was a four-fold increased risk of autism spectrum disorder and a three-fold increased risk of childhood autism   The use of carbamazepine, oxcarbazepine, lamotrigine and clonazepam monotherapy during pregnancy was not associated with development of autism.  How often do you review medication profiles of your patients who are pregnant to make interventions?
