According to a recent prospective cohort study, the consumption of over-the-counter analgesics before a marathon was associated with 4-10 times higher incidence of adverse effects mostly related to gastrointestinal cramps and cardiovascular events. The adverse event rate increased as the dose of the analgesic increased.  How often do your patients who participate in endurance sports ask you about analgesic use prior to the event?
