A team from the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center found that statins could improve progression-free survival in inflammatory breast cancer (IBC) patients. Their retrospective study focused on 724 patients who had stage III IBC between 1995 and 2011 from their clinic. Patients who reported use of lipophilic statins had a disease free survival rate of 2.47 years compared to 1.76 years of disease free survival in patients with no reported statin use. Beyond lipid lowering, what are other effects of statins?
