A Nationwide Cohort study recently published in the Circulation assessed whether the cardiovascular risk correlated with NSAID use after a myocardial infarction (MI) was associated with the amount of time that has elapsed since the MI. The study included around a 100,000 patients in Denmark that were registered in the Danish hospital and pharmacy registry. Based on the results of the study, NSAID use was associated with an increased cardiovascular risk (death or coronary death or nonfatal recurrent MI) after an MI regardless of the time from the first MI. How often do you ask patients about their pertinent medical history prior to recommending NSAID’s?
