Authors of a cohort study published in Neurology collected data from over 6000 British subjects (age 39-63) over the span of 10 years.  Those who were obese and had metabolic syndrome experienced a 22.5% faster decline in mental function compared to subjects without these conditions.  Being obese without metabolic syndrome was also associated with a decrease in cognition.  How comfortable are you when talking to your patients about obesity and measures to prevent further complications?
