U.S. Drug Enforcement Agency cracked down on designer drugs nationwide seizing almost 5 million packets of fake pot, 167,000 packages of ‘bath salts’ and $36 million. President Obama signed a law earlier this month banning 31 compounds used in synthetic drugs, but drug makers reformulate chemical compositions to evade legislation. With more than 13.000 calls made to poison control centers in 2011 regarding these products, it is evident that use and subsequent toxicity has significantly increased. Have you or your colleagues dealt with this issue in your practice?
