Many parents use OTC products such as Anbesol and Baby Orajel containing this local anesthetic when a baby is teething.  Since 2006, the FDA has received 19 reports of benzocaine gel-related cases of methemoglobinemia in children with 15 of these in children under 2 years old.  How will you change the way you counsel parents looking for OTC products to sooth teething babies?
